ISAF ready to provide logistical support for polls

KABUL (Pajhwok): The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Sunday Afghan forces had the capacity to provide security for the upcoming polls. The alliance also reiterated its willingness to provide logistical support for the landmark elections.
Brig. Gen. Todd Balfe, the ISAF deputy chief of staff for communications told journalists their evaluation showed that capacity of Afghan security forces had considerably improved.
He said local forces demonstrated their capability of ensuring tight security for the consultative Loya Jirga on the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the US.
Speaking at the ISAF headquarters in Kabul, the Canadian general said: “Afghan security forces have all the capabilities to independently provide security for presidential and provincial council elections.
"We will provide logistical support to the local security forces if we are asked by the Afghan government,” he said, hoping Afghan forces would continue to deal with the challenges ahead.
