FAIZABAD/SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah’s team members on Monday stopped the vote recount and audit process in northern Jawjzan and northeastern Badakhshan provinces.
Faramarz Mangal, IEC head for Badakhshan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the ‘Stability and Partnership’  and ‘Peace and Justice’ electoral teams supporter forced their way into the commission office, breaking chairs, doors and closing the office.
Currently all IEC staff were inside the warehouse, he added.
Police spokesman Sanullah Rohani told Pajhwok that security forces had reached the commission and were trying to resolve the issue through dialogue.
Elsewhere, some supporters of Stability and Partnership electoral team belonging to First Vice-President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dustom closed the IEC office in Jawzjan.
Quatratullah Watan, Junbish youth wing head, told Pajhwok that all supporters of Dustom gathered and stopped the vote recount and audit process and set up a tent in front of the IEC office on Sunday afternoon.
He said their protest would continue until the IEC addressed the Stability and Partnership electoral team’s demands.
He said, “We support clean votes of people and will not allow anyone to reach power through rigging.”
Meanwhile, Almas Awrangzib, IEC head for Jwazjan, confirmed Gen. Abdul Rashid Dustom supporters closed the IEC office late on Sunday and did not allow their staff to work on the vote recount and audit process. He said efforts were underway to resolve issue.
Supporters of Gen. Dustom also oppose the audit and recount process of votes and they attempted to stop it in Sar-i-Pul and Faryab provinces.
The IEC suspended last week the audit and recount process of votes and a day earlier decided to resume the process in all provinces on Sunday.
