KANDAHAR/MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Protestors closed provincial Independent Election Commission (IEC) offices in Kandahar and Balkh provinces on Saturday, warning to keep the offices shut until their demands were accepted.


MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The governor of northern Balkh province on Sunday said Afghanistan seriously needed NATO forces’ support to reverse the tide of insecurity.
Atta Mohammad Noor was speaking at a change of command ceremony at the NATO’s Train, Advise Assist Command – (TAAC) North headquarters in Maza-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.
Outgoing commander of the TAAC-North, Brig. Gen. Andreas Hannemann, handed over the helm of affairs to incoming commander Brig. Gen. HartmutRenk last night.

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Balkh Governor Atta Mohammad Noor on Saturday alleged the northern Kunduz province fell to Taliban due to bad governance and mismanagement of its affairs.
During a farewell ceremony held for the outgoing Deputy Governor Zahir Wahdat in Mazar-i-Sharif, Noor said that Kunduz was neither efficiently administrated nor the officials had exact information about the ground realties.

MAZAR-I-SHARIF/ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Like some other provinces, residents of northern Balkh and eastern Kunar provinces also staged rallies on Saturday to push for adding the word “Afghan” to the biometric national identity cards.
In Balkh, thousands of people coming from various parts of Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, gathered at the Firdousdsi Square on the Kabul-Balkh highway. The protestors included Pashtun, Uzbek, Hazara, Sadat and other tribesmen.

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): People of the Zara district of Balkh province on Monday asked the government to arrest the killers of 12 civilians, who were shot to death two days ago.
The civilians were got down from their vehicles on their way from Koshundi district to Zara and shot dead on Saturday. The bodies of the victims were handed over to their families a day later.
A representative from province in the Wolesi Jirga, Abbas Ibrahimzada, asked the government to bring the perpetrators to justice, saying all victims belonged to the Hazara ethnic community.
