KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Hundreds of religious scholars on Wednesday announced support for security forces, urging insurgents to join peace process in larger national interest.
A big gathering was held, which was attended by hundreds of religious leaders, provincial council members and representatives of High Peace Council (HPC).
Maulvi Obaidullah Faizani, Kandahar Ulama Council head, said many innocent people and security forces personnel were being killed daily in the nook and corner of the country.

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Tribal elders and civil society activists from central Uruzgan province on Tuesday claimed influential police chief Matiullah Khan had not been killed in a suicide attack, but he was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Kabul hotel.
Addressing a press conference in Kandahar City, the elders and activists from Uruzgan warned they would launch a series of protests if the government did not accurately investigate Khan’s murder.
Sources had said Matiullah Khan was killed by a burqa-clad suicide bomber in Kabul about a week back.

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN)  Known as a hub and one of the rich provinces in mineral and natural resources, a number of mines reservoirs are discovered in various districts of the volatile Kandahar.
However, a broad survey would to be conducted yet to find out all natural and unexplored reservoirs in the province.
Pajhwok Afghan News has made public information on mines identified by the provincial geology department and a number of international entities.

KANDAHAR CITY (PAJHWOK): Poppy cultivation has considerably declined as a result of improved security in many areas of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Wednesday.
Counternarcotics Director Gul Muhammad Shukran told Pajhwok Afghan News poppies had been planted in Zherai, Panjwai, Maiwand and Shah Walikot districts this year.
But the cultivation of the illicit crop has fallen under the Food Zone programme, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), according to the official.
