JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governors of eastern Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar provinces have said they have improved coordination among local departments to eliminate threats posed from the border areas.
Lack of security personnel for border protection, insecurity on highways, occasionally power lines cut and need for reforms in the local governance was major issues in the eastern provinces.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Meshrano Jirga or upper house of parliament complaints commission has accused some lawmakers from eastern Nangarhar province of meddling in the province’s administrative affairs.
Zalmai Zabuli, the commission’s head, and six other senators on Wednesday visited Nangarhar where they assessed security related problems and the performance of local departments.
The commission found that insecurity in some districts, problems in the education sector and the lack of sufficient police personnel were main problems the Nangarhar administration faced.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Officials on Monday said security posts were being increased to prevent civilians from being harmed during clashes between the Taliban and Islamic State groups in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province.
Recent clashes between the two groups have reportedly left at least eight civilians dead and a large number of families displaced in the Mamond area of the district.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governor on Saturday claimed more fighters from Pakistan had arrived in eastern Nangarhar province to join the Islamic State (IS) group and others from Afghan provinces to back the rival Taliban.
It is said fresh clashes between the two rival armed groups in the Achin district had left a number of civilians and a tribal elder dead.
Dozens of homes have been burned and according to the governor, airstrikes by foreign troops in the same district had killed and wounded a large number of fighters from both the sides.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governor on Wednesday said he would try to increase coordination among donor agencies and government organisations in implementation of projects in eastern Nangarhar province.
Salim Khan Kunduzi was talking to UN Habitat officials during a meeting at the governor’s house, where they signed two projects worth around $400 million.
The UN Habitat would reconstruct pavements around the city and Qassam Abad Township besides constructing streets, culverts and cleaning irrigation canals as part of the projects.
