Public rep’s arrest touches off protest

CHARIKAR (PAN): Hundreds of people staged a protest against the arrest of a provincial council member in central Kapisa province on Sunday, officials said.
The demonstration in Tagab district blocked the Mahmud Raqi-Sarobi road for two hours in Mullahkhel and asked for the immediate release of the public representative, Najibullah Rahimi.
One of the protesters, Abdul Fatah, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Rahimi was picked by security personnel from his residence two weeks ago.
Another demonstrator, Zakirullah, asked President Hamid Karzai to stop civilian casualties during operations conducted by Afghan and foreign security personnel.
Sharifi was detained by National Directorate of Security (NDS) agents who had come from Kabul, said the provincial intelligence chief, Hassan Sharifzoi.
