Ghani urges Omar, Hekmatyar to return home

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Frontrunner Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Friday urged Taliban’s supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omar and Hizb-i-Islami Afghanistan leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar to return to their homeland and choose to live in peace as part of a broader national consensus.
“Peace comes with national consensus and on the basis of that consensus I urge all the disgruntled leaders, especially Mullah Omar and Gulbadin Hekmatyar to return to their country and live in peace with their brothers,” Ghani told a campaign gathering in Kandahar City.
Besides Kandahar, thousands of people, including women, from neighbouring Helmand, Uruzgan, Zabul and other provinces attended the gathering.
Ghani condemned the assassination attempt on his rival candidate Abdullah Abdullah, saying he was deeply shocked. “I wish Abdullah a long life,” he said.
Ahmadzai said if he won the elections, he would bring back all Afghan refugees from Pakistant’s Quetta city, the capital of Balochistan province as part of his plan to bring peace to the country.
